Contrast: The Blog

It’s been a long time coming, but worth the wait, I hope: introducing Contrast and its blog.

Fresh start

I started blogging on Naive by Design in September 2006. It opened a lot of doors for me. Respected peers and those I looked-up to would surprise me when they’d comment on it. New clients would say they hired me because of what I wrote. Blogs are powerful tools when you have something to say but my first blog fell dormant in late 2007, a victim of its own success, I suppose. But today I start talking openly about my new company, Contrast, and its blog.

Contrast

Music enthusiasts start new bands because they know what good music is and hate that those with so much “success” peddle anything but good music. They have something inside them that must be shared with the world, hopefully for the better.

I started Contrast, a web design company, because the Irish web industry is a joke. Contrast will be the shining light amongst the cowboys and snake-oil salesmen. Contrast will bring change. But more on that soon; Contrast will launch for real in March 2008 with some big announcements.

The Blog

If there wasn’t already a book by the same name, this post would have been titled “How to Lose Friends & Alienate People”. I spent a lot of my career to-date being polite with all I came across in the industry. Being pleasant is in my nature. But no-one ever finished life with a decent obituary by being nice. Principles is principles and anyone responsible for damaging our industry and besmirching our profession won’t be too fond of me, Contrast or this blog by the time I’m done. I know who really cares about what we do and I’ll be highlighting these heroes on this blog. Everyone else, best get learning and pulling-up your socks. Or just quit now.
